Frequently asked questions

What payment types do you accept?

I offer a range of payment options such as direct bank transfer, cash (correct change appreciated), credit card, private health rebates and payment through Tyro or I can send an invoice which can be paid within 48 hours post treatment.

What kind of conditions can you treat?

At Prom Coast we specialise in treating chronic headache, back pain, arthritis and pain, aching pains at night time, sporting injuries and everything in between.

What should I expect in a treatment?

Expect a thorough client history to be taken before treatment commences, you will be sent a history form upon booking your appointment, to save time on the day, make sure this is filled out before you arrive. You will then be asked a number of specific questions and go through a postural analysis, range of movement tests and specific tests. This helps us narrow down conditions and treat appropriately.

During the treatment you may be asked to get up off the table a number of times, this allows the therapist to ensure the correct techniques are being applied to the correct muscles. Don’t expect a relaxation massage where you lay down for an hour and go to sleep!

During the treatment you will also be asked to let the therapist know if the pressure is ok, if one side is more sensitive than the other etc. to provide the best treatment possible.

You will then be directed to go through the same range of movement tests or any movements that reproduce pain again, to see if your pain symptoms have changed or moved.

Specific exercises, stretches and lifestyle tips will be given for you to complete before your next treatment. The therapist can only control what happens in the treatment, it is up to you to continue to work towards wellness between treatments. The more diligent you are with your exercises, the faster you will recover!

Do I have to undress?

The majority of my treatments are performed through clothes, so no clothing removal is necessary. However, I do ask if you could please wear comfortable, stretchy clothes (no jeans please) so working through clothes is possible. On some occasions, some clothing may need to be removed to adequately treat a specific region, but this will be discussed if required.

Will I have to keep coming back week after week?

If your pain hasn't resolved by 4 - 5 treatments, I'm not doing my job properly. My goal as a therapist, is to treat you so I don't have to see you again. In this busy life, few people have the time, or money, to return for repeat treatments which stretch on for months and months. 4 weekly treatments, along with clients performing at-home activities and stretches, should be the most which should be required. In some instances, especially for chronic pain that has been persistent for many years, a few more treatments may be required to be completely pain-free.

Will the cupping leave marks and does it cost more?

This is dependent on the person, and how long the cups are left on. Most of the time you will be left with some mark, which looks like a circular bruise, but only lasts up to a week to fade. Because cupping brings blood to the skin's surface, it may cause temporary marks on the skin, similar to bruises. The marks left behind also indicate the condition of the treatment area. If there are no marks or they are light pink, it could mean a lack of blood flow to the area.

Cupping is included in the treatment fee, if it is applied during the treatment.

Why might your treatment work when so many other massages and therapists have not changed my symptoms?

By focusing on the cause of pain and dysfunction, not just the symptoms, faster and longer lasting results can be achieved. By going through clinical history, deduction and analysis of symptoms the therapist can form an opinion on what condition may be causing the complaint and how to resolve it. As we are not doctors, we are legally not allowed to diagnose anything, however through specific tests, questions and palpation (massage) skills we can narrow down underlying causes.
